Weapons of World War 1.
The rifle-
The rifle was the main weapon used by the British soldiers. A person within 1,400 meters could be killed. The riffle had direct firing to bullet, fired a grenade and was use a bayonet in hand to hand fighting.

The machine gun- The machine gun had to be on a flat surface. 4-6 were needed to work it. Large field guns had a long range an could create devasting damages to the enemy. Gas- Mustard gas was the deadlest gas in world war 1. Its colorless and takes up to 12 hours to place an effect. It gives you, blistering skin, vomiting, internal and external bleeding, sore eyes and death can take up to 5-6 weeks. Another as was chlorine gas which caused a burning sensation in the throat and caused chest pains. Torpedoes-
They were used by submarines. Germans used them to blow up ships carrying supplies to America to Britan. |
The Zepplin- Also known as the blimp, was an airship used in the early part of the war. They carried machine guns and bombs. Soon or a later they were left out because they were easy to shoot from the sky. Tanks- Tanks were first used in the war at the Battle of Somme. The first tank was the Little Willie. The tank needed 3 men to work it. its speed was 3mph. Planes- In the beginning they were used for delivering bombs and for spying work but became fighter aircraft armed with machine guns, bombs and possibly cannons. Fights between to planes are called dogfights. |
